Golden milk is one of my favorite winter beverages, that is both nourishing, warming, and satisfying. A cold blustery, snowy or rainy day always call for warm and soothing nourishment. I keep a little jar of turmeric and spices in the tea cupboard, to mix with steamed warm milk and honey whenever the urge strikes. It is a perfectly balanced mixture of the warming, activating and drying healing spices, with the nourishment and moistening qualities of whole and pure milk. (Please use organic, pastured when possible, or homemade nut milks.)
Golden Milk is a traditional way of giving turmeric in food as medicine. Turmeric is a time tested ayurvedic remedy for any number of ailments, and modern science is following it up with science. Its a wonderful warming antiinflamatory, purifier and healer for digestion, skin, liver, cardiovascular system, blood, and the immune system. Turmeric is best absorbed with fats and other spices like black pepper. "Haridra" is a rich and delicious blend of turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, clove and pink himalayan salt. Mix 1 tsp in hot milk, add honey to taste and a spoon of ghee or coconut oil.
